Sorry Xangites! I almost forgot you.

Okay okay, okay!  I know it has been a REALLY long time since I have posted anything so I will dispense with the apologies and pleasantries and get right to it.

·        IT”S A BOY!!! That’s right!  Neisha and I have had the sonogram and in September we will welcome a new baby boy. If you didn’t know we are pregnant, sorry you missed the news.  To say I am excited would be the understatement of the year.  I love all of my girls, and I am looking forward to the injection of some more testosterone in the Handley clan.  Mom and baby are doing well.  She has already started buying boy outfits and is room will be decorated in TENNESSEE colors.  What else

·        My boss at work has accepted a senior management job and so I have applied to take his place.  I will keep you all posted as I know more.

·        The girls are doing great.  Zoe is an amazing reader and is doing incredibly well in school.  She and Sofia have also taken on responsibilities in the home and are doing excellent with that.  Sofia is excited about starting pre-school next year as well.

·        My last post was about the television shows I was watching.  Well, since that time I went through a 40 day fast from the television.  It was awesome.  Also, one of my shows has been cancelled, another one I stopped watching, and the other two are still totally awesome.

·        I have no favorite from AI this season.  I missed 7 weeks during my fast and just kind of lost interest.  I was glad to wave bye byea to Sanjaya  though.  That was getting ridiculous.

·        The church is doing amazingly well.  We are growing in size and strength.  I have taken on a number of responsibilities and look forward to even more in the future.  It is an exciting time in Atlanta for sure.

·        My guitar playing is improving at a rapid rate.  I am actually starting to write my first song on the guitar, which is painstakingly slow, but I will get through it.

I think that is about it.  Amazing how after four months there are only a few real highlights.  Well, such is life.  If any of you have any questions about anything specific, please drop me a line and let me know.  Talk to you all later.

One day, sixty-six days...it's all the same!

Okay, so I know it has been muuuuuch longer than 1 day since I posted last.  Actually it’s only been a couple of hours, but I mean before that.  I promised a post about the new television season, so here it is.

So, I am actually watching five shows, not three.  I am currently into Deal or No Deal, Heroes, Studio 60, Smallville, and the Amazing Race.  Deal or No Deal was actually Neisha’s fault.  Heroes was due to pressure from MANY friends.  So let’s break it down:

DEAL OR NO DEAL:  This is one of the most entertaining shows on television, and the premise is so simple.  If you haven’t seen it, it’s too long to explain here.  It is both exciting and gut wrenching at times.  Most contestants take the deal about one round too early.  However, though the winnings were big in the beginning, they are shrinking now…HMMMM.

HEROES:  Quite simply, probably the best show pound for pound on the major networks right now.  Well acted, well written, plenty of twists and surprises.  Sometimes I wish it was longer than an hour.  Okay, all the time I wish it was longer than an hour.  If you watch it, hit me up and we’ll chat about the details, if not START WATCING IT!  I can fill you in on what you’ve missed. “Save the Cheerleader, save the world!” Want some irony? The little tomboy from “Remember the Titans” has grown up into a high school cheerleader!

STUDIO 60 (on the Sunset Strip): Yeah, the title is ridiculously long, but the show is great.  Now you must understand that I am a big fan of Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme.  They are the team behind The West Wing, Sports Night (10 points if you can tell me what that is!), and one of my favorite films “A Few Good Men”.  Anyone who could write a monologue like the one Col Nathan Jessup launches into has got some serious talent, and if you can stand the ridicule from the name Tommy Schlamme, you are okay in my book.  The show has a brilliant cast: Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford, Steven Weber, Amanda Peet, D.L. Hugley, and others.  The premise is behind the scenes at a Saturday Night Live type sketch show.  Again, great writing, and I love the dialogue pace of Aaron’s work.  They almost axed it without giving it a real chance, but I am glad they recanted because I think it will catch on.  If not, I can put it on the list  with “Love Monkey” of great shows that got axed.

SMALLVILLE:  I have been on this journey with young Clark Kent since it’s inception six years ago.  In that time there have been a few headscratching moments (Lex turns into Zod, Lana, Lois, and Chloe as witches, Lana as a vampire) but overall it has been a great ride.  The thing I love about this show is that it is not afraid to poke fun at itself and is at times very tongue and cheek.  If you want proof, check out last years episode with a cameo by Tom Wopat (That’s Luke Duke for you youngsters and those from across the pond) as Jonathan Kent’s (he’s played by John Schneider, or Bo Duke) best friend.  They refer to each other as good ole boys, and Tom’s character drives a 67 Dodge Charger (it’s blue, hey let’s not be ridiculous) that even has doors that are “stuck” making the twosome have to enter through…the windows.  They also tear off on a joyride that includes not only a jump, but a signature Yee ha!  Throughout the years there have been cameos by other superheroes (Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, the Avenging Angel) though none were referred to as such.  This year they are all coming together.  Green Arrow has already entered the scene, and will be joined for an episode by his cohorts for what might call Justice League of America, the Abercrombie version.  I’ll be tuned in, I hope you will be too.

AMAZING RACE: Finally we come to this.  Twelve teams racing around the world for a chance to win 1 million dollars.  Now I sound like Phil.  Anyway, Neisha and I  have watched this for many seasons.  This year, I was rooting for the former Miss America pageant winners or the Barbies, as their competitors referred to them.  They were fierce, coming in first on several legs.  I say were because they were so fierce that everyone ganged up on them and they did not make it to the final three.  Now I have to put my money on the model/former drug addicts.  Each episode is exciting though, with challenges, mishaps, and blow-ups from just about everybody.  You should check this one out too.

So that’s it.  Most of my posts from now on are going to be about subjects, rather than general updates on our lives.  I will still do those, but with the turn of events in our nation over the last few months, I have plenty to rant about.  See you soon!

This is important!

So today is an important day.  It is the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which prompted the US involvement in WWII.  We owe a great debt of gratitude to those who fought or built equipment for, or just endured this war.  So if you know or see an octogenarian, just say thanks, and remember what was done.

It angers me the way people treat the elderly in this country.  They are looked down upon or thought of as a nuisance or something to be tolerated until they kick the bucket.  The reality is they should be REVERED!  They have endured the Great Depression, several wars, and the Holocaust.  We have had our obstacles too.  However the amount of lives lost in the bombing of the twin towers coupled with the number of soldiers we have lost in Iraq PALE IN COMPARISON to the losses suffered in  WWII.  If not for the courage of our grand/great grand fathers we would be sprecken Deutsch right now.

Especially in this time, it is fashionable to bash the president, bash the military, and complain about the direction this country is heading.  Let’s take time out today to remember and if possible THANK those who made our lives possible.  Let’s also remember what that senior citizen has done or been through the next time we get angry with them for being slow, or old, or whatever.

Overdue update:

Hello all!  I hope you are doing well.  Here is one of my “been way too long” blog posts, so if you don’t like to read, you better stop here.  Who knows how long I could ramble on?   So here we go:

First of all…God is freaking awesome, can I just say that?  He has been doing totally incredible things in the life of the men of our church, and in me in particular.  I won’t go into details here, but if you want the scoop, talk to me live or shoot me an e-mail/message and I will be happy to share it with you.  Suffice it to say my LIFE IS CHANGING!!  Simply incredible.  That’s the only way to describe it.

On the family front, we are doing well.  All of these changes God has been doing in both my life and Neisha’s have resulted in a closer relationship in many ways.  Please keep us in prayer as the forces of evil would love to make a futile attempt to steal back the ground that we have gained.  Zoe is doing amazingly well in school right now.  She reads like a champ.  Her handwriting is really good.  She really enjoys going to school, which is great.  Sofia is getting used to life without Zoe around all day, and enjoying her time with her mama.  She is doing better with regards to her sometimes ugly personality.  We are trying our best to be consistent and discipline her for wrong attitudes.  It’s a battle to say the least.

The church is really doing well.  After the first week, one couple on the course was writing out a list of people they could invite to the next Alpha!  That is amazing right there.  We are confident that God wants to change peoples lives and are exited to see what will happen.

I will post a blog tomorrow that has to do with the new television season.  I have decided I am only going to commit to three shows this season: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Smallville, and The Amazing Race.  Anything else I happen to catch is cool, but I am starting to realize there are more important things in life than television. (Okay, get up off the floor now!)  I just feel like our lives are being filled with much better ways to spend our time, which I am very excited about.  Now when American Idol 6 comes around….well we’ll burn that bridge when we get there.

I guess that is all for now.  Until tomorrow…

I Still live!

I KNOW I KNOW, it has been waaaaaay too long since I have posted.  I will have to post more often so these don’t have to be so long, but this one still will be.  I hope you take the time to read it.

  1. Zoe has now completed one month of school.  She got good behavior marks every single day of the month so we took her to American Adventures, which is a Six Flags for kids.  She had a great time.
  2. SOUTHEAST MEN’S CONFERENCE: We had the first ever Southeast Men’s Conference two weeks ago.  To say it was amazing would be an understatement.  God dealt with fear issues in my own life, by making me jump in the lake and swim about 100 feet out to a dock and back again.  Those of you who know me well know how improbable that is.  God Rules!  I also climbed a 47 foot rock wall tower at the campsite, and had planned to white water raft, but was thwarted by a log truck that thought an impromptu game of pick-up sticks would be a good idea on a Friday afternoon.  I have NEVER seen God move so drastically, on such a large scale in the lives of men.  Almost every guy in our church has had his life radically changed in the past three weeks.  God has something planned.  I can’t wait to see what it is.
  3. Neisha and I are doing great.  God is dealing in the same ways with the women in our church, and Neisha was recently freed of some long past wounds that have drastically altered our marriage…nuff said.
  4. The job is going well too. Nothing exciting, nothing dramatic. Just going well.
  5. WARNING!! SHAMELESS PERSONAL PLUG APPROACHING!! Tomorrow is my birthday. Please send your tidings.  Don’t ask how old I am.  That’s just rude! (Actually I am 35…YEA!!!!!)
  6. Tennessee Volunteers smash the California Bears.  THIS IS OUR YEAR BABY!!
  7. Who will win Rockstar Supernova?  My vote is Dilana or Toby.  If you don’t know what I’m talking about…GET IN THE GAME MAN!!
  8. LABOR DAY:  We camped out with the girls in our backyard on Sunday night.  We lit a campfire, roasted hot dogs and smores, and read stories by flashlight.  I learned that Neisha’s idea of camping and mine are like Britney Spears music and that of WAM! (That’s Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, not the gay Andrew Ridgeley/George Michael project from the 80’s)

Okay kiddies.  I think that wraps it up.  I have come to realize that no one posts on Xanga anymore for the most part, so hopefully some of you still read this.  Also check out my “other site” at www.myspace.com/thathandleyguy. Until next time, keep your head in the clouds and keep reaching for the stars (Does anyone know where that is from?)
